WELCOME TO LEWISBURG UNITED METHODIST CHURCH!

We are glad that you have joined us to worship God and seek God's presence.  It is our desire to provide a place where you can experience personal worship of God and be part of a church family that seeks to grow in faith and glorify God.   We look forward to meeting you during and after the service.  Please sign the fellowship pad during the offering including your address.  We want you to be comfortable during worship. Large print hymnals, hearing devices and booster seats for children are all available. Just ask an usher and she or he will be glad to help you. A pre-school nursery is also available during both Sunday morning worship services and Sunday School. Nursery pagers are given to parents so that you can be assured that you can be reached at any time if your child needs you.

THE ROSEBUD on the altar is given to the glory of God and in celebration of the birth of Josephine Grace Dethloff. Josephine was born on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 and is the daughter of John & Nora Edwards Dethloff and the granddaughter of Dan & Becky Edwards. Congratulations!!

TODAY IS RALLY DAY! We’re kicking off the opportunities for Christian Education and Spiritual Formation being offered in the upcoming year.  We’ll consecrate our teachers and leaders during the 9am and 11am worship services, and we’ll gather in Wesley Hall at 10am for light refreshments, fellowship, and to continue our celebration which will include cheering for ‘our’ kids as they move on to new Sunday School classes.  All are invited to join us not only for the Rally Day celebration, but also in Sunday School Classes, Bible studies and other formation & support groups—if you need help deciding, talk to Joe, Jeff or Lara.  The Rally Day celebration continues this evening at 5pm with the LUMC Summer Picnic! (See separate announcement for more details).

A CHURCH WIDE SUMMER PICNIC will be held TODAY, Sunday, August 29th beginning at 5pm at the Charlie Mackey Park (Rt. 219 North to Maxwelton, Across from Clifton Presbyterian Church).  The park has swings, a covered eating area, and restrooms – please bring your own lawn chair.  There is a giant field where we’ll play games and jump on the jolly jump.  The United Methodist Women and the United Methodist Men are sponsoring the picnic and will provide drinks, meat and place ware.  Please bring a dish to share and come and enjoy an evening of fellowship, fun and GREAT food with your church family!

WELCOME, CHILDREN OF THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL CHOIR! We are so pleased to have very special guests with us during all three worship services this weekend.  We thank the children and their leaders for being with us as they share their music, their faith, and their love.

CHILDREN’S SABBATH MONTH: This year, we’re doing something a little different.  Instead of setting aside one Sunday to celebrate the Children’s Sabbath as we normally do, we are going to be celebrating the Children’s Sabbath in small ways each Sunday through October 3rd.  Enhancing the worship space is a beautiful and colorful banner created by Judy Jones---thank you, Judy!!!  Our special Children’s Sabbath offering will be the love offering that we collect today for the World Help Organization.  Our special Children’s Sabbath mission project will continue to be the collection of school supplies & back packs through the month of September.  Children will be involved in each upcoming worship service in special ways.  Our children and the children of the world are important to us all year long—the Children’s Sabbath month of Sundays simply gives us a time to intentionally lift them up.

WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANTS! Today, in addition to lifting up the class and group leaders for the upcoming year, we also want to thank those who have served over the past year! Jessie Cochran-Vacation Bible School; Dr. Joe Geiger-Choir Sunday School Class; Pat Cochran-UMYF Leader; Tina Campbell—Children’s Church Coordinator & UMYF Leader; Meredith Donnelly-UMYF Leader; Tammy Shifflett—Middle School Sunday School Class;  and Kirsten Lafollette—Companions In Christ Study all served over the past year(s) and we are so grateful to them and we look forward to seeing where God will lead them now in their service and ministry.  In addition, some short-term ministries arose throughout the past year and we would like to thank those leaders for making them possible: Jessica Fauber & Sue Knepp—Beautiful in God’s Eyes; and Stephanie Scoates, Betsy Moyers, Kelli Stewart and Lara Edwards—The Way of the Child.  Short-term programs offer amazing possibilities and we hope that more of them will be offered through the coming year.

THANKS SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS:  It is the tradition in LUMC to give our school-year Sunday School teachers a time of respite in the summer so that they can rest and re-fill their spiritual wells.  So, over the summer months, we rely upon weekly volunteers to keep our youth and children’s classes going strong.  Several persons helped over the last 3 months, and we are so grateful to you! Teaching the Middle School & High School combined class were:  Andrea Smart, Donna Ramsey, Julie Riggleman, Emily & Bob Haas & Diana Godbey.  Teaching the combined children’s classes were: Jenny McClung, Brenda McClung, Stephanie Scoates, Kim Kowalkowski, Judi Kenaston, Alecia Ramsey, Claudia Harris, Cara Crookshanks & Lara Edwards.
